We are thrilled to be able to say that we will be back in our rooms underneath the Cashmere Presbyterian Church for the New Year. The Church is the only "stone church" open and functioning in Christchurch at the moment. It has been assessed as 100% of "code" and, of course, it is built directly onto the rock beneath. The walls are extremely thick and solid and so we are very safe up there.
Our "opening day" will be on Thursday, 2nd February. Jan and Leith have been very busy in the past year, not only seeing new clients, but also doing a lot of reading and reflecting. Leith has also prepared two presentations for the Asperger Services Australia Conference in Brisbane, to be held 15-18 February. She is very excited to be going, and what's more, to have all expenses paid! It will be a busy time as there will be several Aussie Aspies to meet and spend time with, but a good beginning to (hopefully) going to more of these gatherings to share and learn more about our wonderful condition.
Leith and Jan are also going to the AutismNZ Conference in Auckland in September 2012 and are hoping to have their proposals for papers accepted.
New Zealand Aspies have built up a virtual community in the last year thanks to Facebook. Anyone interested can go to the Asperger Syndrome New Zealand page and ask to be admitted to membership. We also share notes with our friends in Australia, an excellent arrangement.
